One Sens fan compares Karlsson to Orr and all of a sudden "Sens fans are embarassing themselves"? Bah...He's no Orr that's for sure! He's better! He's Chuck Norris 2.0
There's actually been about 2 or 3 Sens fans making that comparison in other threads.
At least this Karlson/Orr talk makes it easier to figure out who is sane and who isn't.
Karlsson vs. Orr is a better comparison than Weber vs. Karlsson. So if we are embarassing ourselves by saying Karlsson to Orr. Than everyone else is embarassing themselves even more insulting us that crappy Weber who can barely score points compares to our Karlsson.
this is a question that should be asked in 10 years or more.
until then lets see how he does.
But Orr is still in a class of his own.
that crappy Weber who can barely score points compares to our Karlsson.
I figure half these threads are intended to be ironic?
If it were so easy to score on old timey goalies, how come all d-men didn't post up Bobby Orr numbers? As somone mentioned, it is better to compare players to their peers than to a standard metric for comparing different eras, but even that is very limited.
Karlsson is great. Had a great season - I hope he builds on it next year!
Ditto, great post my thoughts exactly.
I was 11 when Orr won his last cup so its a while ago but i still remember how dominant he was on his skates . No one could touch him then and given that some want to make comparisons today why not at least think about what he would be like today in the new ultra light equipment . He played most of his career on one knee and no one could catch him . Not to mention besides winning scoring titles with 120 points he was as deadly in his own end . Then throw in when he had to he could fight with the best of them . Nope for me there was only one Bobby Orr and i don't see that happening again ..........in any era . Greatest player ever and i had to live through the Gretzky years as well front and center as a Flames fan . I hated him but i respected him for what he was too but to me Bobby Orr was the man purely because he dominated the same way but as a defenseman .
I know the players are better today because of diets and equipment and training but he dominated in his time against the best in the world and when you think about it at least one knee was shot allmost from the beginning and thats what makes what he did that much more amazing . I just don't like comparing era's because it isn't fair but man i would love to see him play in today's world with 2 knees !
No no no no no, let's speculate right now, and then argue about it, until the thread starts being cleaned up, and several of us get disciplined.
