Funny how it bugs people when he is right !
Funny how he never was any good as a coach.
Moral of the story: any clown can pontificate when a thing goes wrong.
He owns the luxury of showing only highlights that support his view.
I'm guessing you're one of those who believe he knows better than NHL coaches?
ps: only the French wear visors, Europeans are soft, and Russians are dirty.......
BAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
How many coach of the year awards do you have? He knows more about coaching than you ever will and more than some guys that are currently coaching in the NHL. Also, its his job to give his opinion and breakdown parts of the game as he sees it.
What's funny is how much the guy seems to bug you yet you were still watching, hopefully you learned something about hockey.
He might say some crazy things for effect but you don't get to hang around the game as long as he has by being a dummy . He has seen more then any of us in here could ever dream of in the game . I don't agree with every thing he says but I respect him for his opinions on what's going on . He deserves a little respect as a senior citizen as well . Some of the comments on him in here are a little insulting .
Wow, speaking of saying "crazy things", I must have been more "overly refreshed" last night than I thought.
You are correct of course, he does deserve some respect, even if one doesn't agree with him.
And he is right half the time.
It's okay I had one of those nights myself this week . I tried to mix crown royal and oiler fans , it never is a good mix either .
Musta' been the trip to the shed.
How is it Don Cherry, a demonstrably career long crappy coach, can sit there in his little segment and babble about X's and O's stuff like he knows what he's talking about.
AND PEOPLE ACTUALLY BELIEVE HIM!!
It really could be much worse!! They could have Doug MacLean and given that I would rather Cherry anyday
can we cut this crap about how don cherry was coach of the year so he knows what he's talking about. he won it with a star studded line-up in boston over 35 years ago. . the real test of his coaching abililty was shown in colorado and in mississauga. where he failed epically.
lots of other guys won coach of the year, guys like bobby kromm, orval tessier, bob murdoch, tom watt, etc:, (pat quinn has won it twice, pat burns three times) yet their opinion is/were never asked for. no one quotes them or says they know more about hockey than pretty much everybody else. no one gave them a show on HNIC. yet they were at least cherry's equal, if not superiors, when it came to coaching. they just didn't have the venue to be able to spout off like cherry does. and he has ralph mellanby to thank for that, not his hockey knowledge or coaching record.
How about you cutting a bit of crap That team had his fingerprints all over it and I really doubt another coach gets what Cherry did out of players like Milbury, Shmautz and O'Reilly. No coach Boiwman included could have done any better with that Colorado team. It was pure crap
Funny how he talks about covering the points. If you cover the points, don't you just allow cross ice passes to be more easily established? Then he praises the shot blocking... the same guys not covering the points.

Exactly. If you position the wingers to cover the points you open yourself up other vulnerabilities.
Allowing more room in the high slot, and the added challenges in dealing with an effective cycle leap to mind.
The whole point of my poorly worded, (possibly drunken) rant, was that it's pretty easy to sit in the pressbox and dissect things when you don't have to explain the potential consequences of the changes you are proposing.
I'm sure that for every example of a point shot resulting in a goal because of soft point coverage, there will be one where a cycle down low led to a goal because the defending wingers were positioned too high to deal with it.
It's just not as simple as he makes it sound. That's all.
Everyone does know that the Don Cherry you see on coaches corner is an act right?
You dont think he's like that in real life right?
He is a very nice low key guy in real life but that would be boring on camera.
That act has kept him employed for many years.
