Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

The agent for Vancouver Canucks goalie Cory Schneider, Mike Liut , says he's concerned about the playing time his client is receiving.

I agree with Liut's concern here, there's a storm brewing.

On a side note, I've watched an awful lot of Canucks games over the years either at the Pacific Coliseum or GM Place/Rogers Arena, and Mike Liut's performance one distant memory was of a spectacular goaltending display. The man was unbeatable that night, I don't remember the final score, only that Liut won that game for St. Louis and that i thought it was the best performance I had ever witnessed live.

Because the Canucks create it by naming a #1 goalie & not playing him, Schneider has a right to be pissed play him or trade him.

Re: Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

I think as a Canucks fan that we have our best case scenario playing out here. Maybe Schneider is the odd man out here and we get a better return for him than we would for Luongo? Or maybe we trade Luongo while his value is peaking? Or just do nothing...and wait until the off season!

Doppleganger, I realize you are pissed as a Leaf fan with no NHL calibre goalies let alone 2 elite goalies like the Canucks, but where in Schneiders contract does it say that even if you are God and as such the Canucks will only make decisions that benefit you and not the team.  And no neither Luongo nor Schneider wants to go to Leafs.

Re: Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

Obviously the Canucks are doing their best to trade Luongo. Liut needs to be quiet and show the same poise as Schneider and Luongo during this process.

We are only 9 games into the season and Luongo has started 4 of the games. The fact that Liut is panicking so soon reflects badly on him.

I'm betting we will see Luongo traded closer to the trade deadline. If Luongo is still in Vancouver after the trade deadline, then Liut can gripe. Until then he should keep his mouth shut.

Agent stirring the pot.

Does Liut think that any other team will play his boy when the backup is  playing better?

Cory is getting the same amount of money whether he plays or not so Liut did his job and now needs to shut the hell up!

Whoah now, you definitely misinterpreted the tone of his post. Doppel is one of the most down-to-earth, sensible people on this site. He never tries to rile anyone up. He was just giving his opinion, no need to start flaming his team for it.

Re: Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

Mike Liut should know that if his client had performed even close to equally as well Lu, he would be starting. Give Canucks mgmt credit here, they're not throwing away games just so a certain player can play. If Schneider plays well in next couple of starts I am sure he can win the job back. Simple way to play all the time, play better than the other guy. And Mike Liut should shut his friggin mouth, he might do his client a disservice and get him traded to the leafs. the way Luongo is playing right now I sure would'nt be real anxious to trade him.

Re: Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

Ha ha ha, I am loving every second of this. Now the entire world see's what kind of lousy GM Gillis is. He has turned the entire thing into a zoo like he always does. He probably will be forced to trade Schneider, like he was forced to trade Hodgson. Nothing like making your new #1 guy pissed off. I hope even the homers turn on this guy, but I doubt it.

Re: Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

Luongo always plays well in the regular season, especially when he gets in "a zone" which may last up to  8 - 10 games.  So it shouldn't be any surprise that's he's playing well now.  The question is, which horse are the Canucks going to ride in the playoffs?  Is it Schneider?  Is it Lu.  I thought the reason they named Schneider No. 1 after last year, was that they decided Schneider is the guy who can take them over the hump.  So if that was the case, aren't they shooting themselves in the foot by playing Lu ahead of him now?  If Lu plays 35 - 40 games this year, are they sure Schneider will be mentally and physically able to come off the bench in the playoffs, should Lu falter again?  So the question really is, are they sacrificing their long-term plan for short-term success?

Re: Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

freedom57, I'm just curious what's your stake in this?

I have already commented on this pleanty and have stated Canucks management has dropped the ball here.

That doesn't necessarily mean that Gillis is horrible, I think he's done a serviceable job, not great, but not terrible either.

What I don't get is it seems you are always posting on Canucks stories and they're always with a negative connotation, why?

Re: Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

After  idiotic comments like that from liut it wouldn't surprise me if Schneider spends the rest of the season on the bench and have his career killed by the canucks management it wasn't the time to make those comments in public the teams winning and for how much I hate luongo he is playing excellent while schnieder s...t the bed common sense seems to dictate who plays

Re: Schneider's agent addresses Canucks trade talk

Wow... Liut is not totally out of line, but I think he needs a kick in the pants with a frozen boot in terms of thinking logically and just cause he deserves it. There doesn't need to be drama but Douche-Copters like this get bent outta shape because the other goalie is playing better. I know agents and players get outta line when ice time drops, but is this chump actually threatening the organization? Gah... this is just annoying.
