No , I have not lost my mind here , and yes I am having fun playing arm chair GM... but if nonis is serious (HE IS imo)about not trading our future for veterans(loungo) and wants this team to become contenders for years this could be a jump start to that end, (yes I stole that from JFJ if anyone remembers his press conferences..lol)If nonis starts receiving offers for kessel or phanuef Or both , ...IMO, he will seriously consider it....Playoff Teams certainly won't pony up such a mammoth asking price , but a team like colorado or another team out of contention might...
I am not a hater of either kessel or phaneuf but we cannot pass on this oppurtunity should it present it self...Nonis has this team now and seems to be heading in the right direction , but with one extreme blockbuster trade we could get over the hump very quickly and become legit , contenders by next season , Yes Next season and add a Top end prospect And a Top pick in return
Can you imagine if we could get oreilly , duchene and a 1st rounder for these 2?..2 centers and will bring our 1st rounder count to 2 this year in a deep draft..., We lose dion sure , but gives the likes of holzer , gardiner , reilly , gunnarsson a excellent shot here..and still have 2 vets in liles and komiserek(need couple of vets to bring these guys along) ...then up front we lose kessel but gain 2 centers , duchene is a awesome centerman , young and very capable of production in that top role......
for those who say we cannot lose kessel who will our new top center play with? Well , lupol and say Kadri on the wing, doesn't sound extreme or too bad to me?..then we will have acquired an excellent top end center prospect(who by all accounts doesn't need much grooming and gets better as he plays) he can step in right now..and who knows a 1st rounder from colarado might get us mackinnon?..and what a problem we would have on our hands at center position?...Duchene , grabovski , oreilly , bozak (would probably go to in that deal) , stekel...Wow would be nice eh?... bozak would go along with them in that deal and oreilly can round into form as a productive defensive centerman who is capable of filling in top position and who we can groom how we want(younger and more talented bozak)...
And this isn't a one sided trade proposal , avs are getting a 30+ goal scoring winger and d man who they are in desperate need of and a center who is filling in nicely here and would do well there behind statsny ...we get our center and another good young center , which IMO is our greatest need , more so then goaltending..(reimer looks good doesnt he?)Talk about building blocks...
Yes trades like this dont happen anymore I know mostly because of money but if they would bite I am sure leafs can retain some salary in that deal to sweeten it even more....
Yes there will be all kinds of reasons why this wont or cant happen but I sure wish it would...Some will laugh at why the avs will trade their top center and a future top center but they need d men badly , and they dont have many scoring wingers(parenteau is only productive winger they have)...They sure up 3 holes in one trade and we sure up our center position for years, not just for today , years by trading 2 expendable quality assets 3(if bozak went)....step forward IMO....

Colorado wont move both RoR and Duchene, but I think it would be possible to get RoR considering the contract problems and their depth at C. Colorado is super weak on the blueline, so might be a team that could have serious interest in Phaneuf.
Kessel getting traded, youre probably looking at a teams top prospect, excluding the top top prospects league wide, + a 1st. Maybe something like Gormley + 1st, Coyle + Brodin or Coyle + 1st, etc. so a nice enough package, but who knows how it would turn out, and it would take a few years to start paying back dividends.
lol mak ,yeah kinda expected that response...but nonis does have these assets and Should use them to bring in at least one of these guys...and kessel?..I cannot see us winning anything with him , he certainly isnt a leader on this club...

No u are probably correct..but this is the type of deal we need to make to get us out of mediocrity..It is a travesty that we have not had a top elite center since mats left and with how much we invetsed to get kessel , he hasnt had that top end center to play with...and with all of the drafting we have done in 8 years we dont even have a Top center prospect in our system...Time to trade a quality asset or 2 like dion and/or kessel to get some Top End elite prospects , and or a top guy like a duchene on this club...IMO , that is not a step backward scenerio or a blow up the team attitude....We can get a top center OR a top end center prospect AND a 1st rounder for either of them or both.. You Do It...
Frattin and kadri , lupol . JVR well we have tons of quality wingers to give a elite center , or prospect to play with...if we trade kessel
I believe nonis will do it right and be patient but will seize an opuurtunity like this, one the previous GM would have never even considered seeings as he had too much of an attachment/investment to kessel , if a awesome deal presents it self , IMO , you do it.... AVS and Duchene oR reilly would be a prime target team should we trade either....

But , IMO we wouldn't miss those goals too much as we do have those options to replace kessel ,n and even though he scores in bunches the team hasn't had too much success with him scoring those goals...Before evveryone jumps at that statement , I know and dont blame it ALL ON HIM ,it isnt all kessel's fault and the blame can be spread around too after all he cannot stop the puck can he?...but as a team that needs to take a step forward , we could do it in leaps and bounds by acquiring a center , putting him between a I stated lupol , frattin or kadri and the upgrade might net 3 25 + goal scorers minimizing the hole left by kessel...
honestly .... if you were colorado woud you even give a 1st and duschesne for those two???? let alone a third great peice in Orielly? Seriously.... Center is the hardest spot to fill, Why would Colorado give up thier two top Centers (or potential) it is laughable..... why would colorado .. who is going nowhere fast acquire Phaneuf?
Kessel has value but if i was building a team, and i had no hope of playoffs(Colorado) i would take Duschesne over him)
Kessel for Oreilly would make sense , sure....
