Canucks comfortable holding on to Luongo

Remember all those preseason trade rumours that said the Vancouver Canucks were desperate to get rid of Roberto Luongo?

Re: Canucks comfortable holding on to Luongo

Yes, we all remember getting sick and tired of those trade rumors.  We also all remember Mike Gillis saying, not more than 2 or 3 weeks ago, that he had a trade all planned out and that his trade partner - who "isn't who we think" - just had to do "something with a certain player first".

Perhaps the Vancouver Sun's Brad Ziemer should've asked Gillis, "What happened to that trade partner who 'just had to do something about another player first'?"

Just what this site needs is a Luongo thread. There hasn't been a Luongo thread oh for what 2 days now? I am putting my armor on to protect my self from the garbage that's going to be hurled by the trolls on both sides of the fence.

Canucks GM dismissed any suggestions that keeping both goaltenders would serve as a distraction.

I have been saying that since game one when Cory got the hook.

Re: Canucks comfortable holding on to Luongo

Wow, thats a great comfort level - each team should adopt a comfort level where they have almost 10 million per year tied up in net.  That much tied up in forwards or defensemen makes sense because they will all play each night but this???

I guess the mystery teams that were hanging around have vanished in thin air for Gillis.  Now he's going to be comfortable.

Comfortable like a colonoscopy done with a 2 X 4

Re: Canucks comfortable holding on to Luongo

@justplayhockey.  If two goaltenders split 50% of the games, its like playing 30 minutes per game.  So how does that differ from a forward making 6.0 million and a d-man making 4 million playing 15 minutes each per game?

Re: Canucks comfortable holding on to Luongo

If you have a 6 million dollar forward only playing 15 out of 60 per game that's crazy - the highest paid guys should play the most minutes - it's stupid to have approx 1/7 th of your payroll tied up in net a d think that's ok.

Thaaaat is a good point. I have never really thought of that before...

Even though as a goalie situation it comes down to games started not overall ice time...

Re: Canucks comfortable holding on to Luongo

I'd be very surprised if most of the anti-Canuck, anti-Gillis, anti-Vancouver and anti-2 great goalies playing for the same team aren't fans of a team with crappy netminding. It's just not fair, is it guys?

He's been one of the best goalies in the league this year, not sure I understand your remark?

Only reason it won't be comfortable for long is because cap wise they simply can't do it past this year. Other than that you are just buying the filth the media tries to shove down our throats becuase they got nothin better to do.

If Schneider starts whining about playing time, you get rid of him because he's not a team player.

As for how bad the contract is...meh, you're getting an elite goalie for a 5.333 cap hit. What happens down the road will happen just that, down the road.
